Two Point-of-View tutorials in less than a month? Don’t say we never did nuthin’ for you.
In this clip, we place a midline catheter. Midlines are a catch-all name for a variety of devices, basically anything too long to reasonably call a regular IV (even a “long” IV, such as the 1.88″ devices typically placed under ultrasound), but not long enough to terminate in a deep vein, which would make it a PICC. Some are placed more or less like standard IVs, some use retained guidewires like radial arterial lines, and some are a mish-mash of technology. The one depicted is about the largest you’ll see, almost as large as a central line, and is placed through a peel-away sheath.
